#### 2022 03 27 — Tutorials for retake preparation

The last session of the retake preparation tutorial will take place tomorrow Monday 28 at 17:00. It will take place in the same BBB room as before. Access code: 261377. Here you can download the second part of the practice exercises that you should try to solve before the tutorial (second version - typo corrected in problem 3.b).

#### 2022 03 16 — Tutorials for retake preparation

There will be a tutorial to prepare for the retake next Friday 18 at 2 pm for those interested. It will take place in the same BBB room as before (https://lecture.uni-leipzig.de/b/vol-69x-g95-ncy). Access code: 261377. There will be other sessions the next week and until the exam. On Friday we will start with a detailed review of the solutions to the first exam.

#### 2022 03 08 — Exam consultations

Time slots for face-to-face discussion of your exam can be booked here. I am in the course of sending emails with extra exercises for admission to the retake. You may also book a time slot for exam consultation to discuss the extra exercises.

#### 2022 03 01 — Exam Results

We have corrected the exam. You can have a look at your exam and the corrections in Moodle. The grading scheme and more information is available on the entry page.

### 2022 02 18 EXAM

The exam will start now. Please go to the moodle pages and download, sign and upload your declaration of independence regarding the exam. In a few minutes, the BBB room will start and you will get further instructions. BBB broadcast BBB access code: 416784.

#### 2022 02 16 — Exam Time

In AlmaWeb the time for the Fri, 18 Feb, exam is specified as 11:30am – 1pm. However, for an online exam you are granted an extension of the exam time by 30min, and we need extra time for online paper work in the beginning. I therefore plan to

• you will work on the exam from 11:30am – 1:30pm
• in case of complications the exam might run till 2pm

Hence, the time for the exam is given as 11am – 2pm on the entrance page of the wiki.

The PDF version of Chapter 6 is available now. The team is incorporating the update into the Wiki. I will start adding now more material and movies to the systems covered in the Online Courses, and I will start a new section for the spinning top.

The open physics room today will be held online. It will take place in the following BBB room. From 9:15 to 10:45.

#### 2022 01 19 — Tutorial on Friday

The tutorial with Daniel Moreno will stay on Fridays 9:15 am. From now on, it will take place in the following BBB room. Access code: 261377. The topics of the next session (21/01) will be: introduction to ordinary differential equations, nondimensionalization, and phase space portraits.

I understood that there have been cases of positive Corona tests for participants of the course. I discussed this with our administrative stuff, and we decided to take the following actions:

• tomorrow the class will be conducted online only in BBB
• on Tuesday we resume our normal schedule, unless noted otherwise
• I informed the instructors of 1st year IPSP courses
• Christian Chmelik agreed to supervise and coordinate our Corona measurements. He will consult you about required measurements, and collect confidential notifications. We would very much appreciate if you informed him about positive cases in an email with
• Subject: Corona Risk Warning
• Please specify in your email which courses you attended during the past 3 days

We have decided now that the exam will take place online, because there are too many participants in the IPSP who still could not make it to come here.

I corrected typos and and rephrased some task for greater clarity. Changes are documented on the wiki pages of the exercises, and are incorporated without comments into the updated PDF file.

This week and for the 1st week of January there will be special regulations for teaching:

#### 2021 12 13–2022 01 08 — Lectures, Seminars, and Open Physics Room

Due to the present Corona situation there are further restrictions coming up for gatherings at the University.

• Lectures will be conducted in BBB (no hybrid teaching during these weeks)
• Seminars and the Open Physics Room may be opened
• on request to the Dean (I am willing to ask for that), and
• iff it will be documented that all participants have undergone a recent official test.1)

I will ask in the beginning of the lecture tomorrow how many participants would be coming under these circumstances.

#### 2021 12 06 — Lectures in the "Kleiner Hörsaal"

Due to an issue with the air conditioning there can be no lectures in the “Kleiner Hörsaal” any longer. In particular,

• the lecture on Dec 4 will be conducted in BBB ONLY!

#### 2021 12 02 — Dies Academicus

On Thursday we commemorate the 612th anniversary of the Universität Leipzig by our Dies Academicus. There will be no lectures on that occasion (i.e. in particular no TP1 lecture). Rather, we encourage everyone to take a look at one of the many special lectures that are delivered on that occasion.2)

Upon preparing the solutions of the exercise sheet I found and corrected a few more typos, and I decided to adapt the ladder problem.

In the question hour we corrected misprints in the exercises and clarified what has to be done in the tasks. These issues are now settled in the wiki, and the PDF file has also been updated.

Based on the feedback in the question hours I corrected typos, added some clarification/explanation (in particular a photo in Ex 4.1), and I revised the last part of Ex. 4.2 in order to guide you towards the important conceptual questions and avoid that you get stuck in unduly lengthy calculations.

The new problem set is outlined on 4. Mechanical Stability and Coordinates and also available as PDF file.
So far there has been no proofreading. Hence, there might be small changes coming up. Please post you pertinent observations in the discussion fields.
Update: Exercise 4.4 a) is not mandatory any more. Also the sheet now says the correct due date.

The Moodle page is open for homework submissions now. We are still fighting to add a poll to the submission process. This will appear now for next weeks submissions.

This week we will do exercises in the class rooms:

• Tue 3pm — SR 532 in the Physics building, Linnestr
• Wed 11am — SR 210 in the ITP, Brüderstr

These time slots will also be kept for the seminars in the forthcoming weeks, with additional options preferentially on Tuesday or Thursday at 9am (these are the times where I know for sure that we will find rooms!).

• Note also that I will kick out all participants who did not register with their studserv.uni-leipzig.de email adress!

Please communicate this request also to the other participants of the course.
So far about 1/3 of the participants ist not yet registered in Moddle!

#### 2021 10 15 — Vote for Seminar time slots

On the Moodle pages I offer multiple time slots for seminars. Please carefully read the instructions in the Announcement Section of the Moodle course page, and make sure to coordinate your vote with your peers. In the lecture on Tuesday we will select the time slots for the groups based on your votes.

#### 2021 10 07 — Moodle course pending

There still is administrative work needed for the new Moodle course. As soon as these steps are taken by the administrators I will enroll you, and announce it here on the wiki.

PS: I appended a discussion field “Administrative Problems” at the end of the entrance page. Please use this form to report problems with access to resources. This will substantially increase the probability that your request will not be lost in my university email jungle.

Unfortunately, there will be only online events due to the pandemic situation. Note, however, that there will be also English lectures, in spite of the most irritating fact that the pages with the announcement are only available in German.
