Abstract
The large number of armed conflicts worldwide and the steady increase in the number of refugees over the last years points on the importance of dealing with traumatic experiences and their mental health consequences. The lecture will provide theoretical insights into models for understanding forced migration, traumatic experiences in this context as well as mental health consequences. In addition, current findings on the complex impact of traumatic experiences in the context of armed conflicts, flight and displacement will be presented. The significance of these findings for political action but also for the provision of psychosocial support for refugees will be discussed.
