Animations for cycloids and curtate trochoids

The notebook provides animations for cycloids and curtate trochoids:

Based on this example we introduce the Sage syntax for generating and storing animations. To this end we also introduce functions 'def' and function calls (as you might know them from Python).

Besides the commands for generating the animations, this notebook also contains instructions on how to add interactive elements to your plot. This will allow you to change parameter values by sliders, and explore how the plot changes.

The notebook is quite long because it also contains remarks and introductory statements about working with Sage. As an exercise I recommend to remove these side remarks. Thus, you will have your own minimal worksheet to make animation.

For more information you can take a look at a screenshot of the notebook ¹⁾ — or you give it a try and

download the Jupyter Sage Notebook

I am always very grateful for suggestions:

need for additional comments and explanation
possibilities for alternative, potentially more elegant solutions
requests for other worksheets that introduce and explain further features of Sage or explore topics relevant for our course

Please send your notebooks by email to me, or post a comment in this discussion forum:

Note that the interactive plots with the sliders are not exported; take a look at Explore trigonometric functions to learn more about sliders.
