Beside my scientific work, I am active in promoting diversity and inclusion within the scientific community and beyond, particularly through the lense of sexual and gender diversity. As a gay man myself, this is a topic that is dear to my heart. The scientific community should be a welcoming environment where each individual is judged on their abilities and work ethic, rather than on their gender, sexuality or origin. Furthermore, the practical challenges that academics face in pursuing their career, such as having to relocate to various countries during ones career, should not favour one demographic, with for example a particular family situation, over another.

In my free time I hugely enjoy theatre, good food and the occasional dance party. I also like to be involved in organizing events for the queer community.
