This is the opening workshop for the
Program on
Many-Body Quantum Theory
that takes place at the ESI from September to December, 2004.
Problems from theoretical physics that are sufficiently
well--understood to allow for a mathematical treatment
and methods in quantum many-body systems that deserve
mathematical attention will be presented, to stimulate
discussions and research in the mathematical branch of the
theory. The speakers present their topics in two 45 minute talks
each, followed by discussions.
