Versions of the renormalization group - viewed from perturbative algebraic QFT

(based on joint work with Klaus Fredenhagen and Romeo Brunetti)

In the framework of perturbative algebraic QFT the following versions of the renormalization group are formulated and their relations are clarified: - Stueckelberg - Petermann (group of finite renormalizations), - Gell-Mann - Low (behaviour under scaling), - Wilson (flow of effective potential as function of a cutoff). Since the algebraic structure does not depend on the choice of the 2-point function, we use a formalism which is manifestly independent of this choice.
