Arrival with plane at Leipzig-Halle airport or train at Leipzig main station

After arrival at the airport look for signs to the Airport train station. If you feel it's a long walk - then you are on the right track! Every 30 minutes there is a direct train connection to the main station in the city center.

From the main train station ("Hauptbahnhof") you can take the tram no. 15 to our office building at "Vor dem Hospitaltore 1" resp. "Prager Str." close to "Ostplatz" (look for the blue circle no. 34 on the r.h.s. of this map), which is the fourth stop after a 7 minutes ride. With the train station in your back, the proper direction of the tram towards "Meusdorf" is to your left. (The tram no. 12 follows the same route but often ends after the second stop, so this option is not recommended.) Since you travel only four stops, you can take a "short-ride ticket" ("Kurzstrecke"). General information on the Leipzig public transportation system can be found here; for schedules of tram and bus lines see this link.

Alternatively, you may first walk along Goethestrasse or Ritterstrasse in direction of Augustusplatz (everybody in Leipzig knows that) to catch the room keys for the University guesthouses "Ritterstr." and "Villa Tillmanns" . You get them at the reception (open 24 hours a day) of the main University building, no. 19 on the map. From there you can reach the Institute by an even shorter tram ride (5 min), again with tram no. 15 (the tram stop is in the middle of Augustusplatz - just in between the Opera building and the concert hall "Gewandhaus"; see the map) or by a 10-15 minutes walk along Prager Strasse.

The Institute is located on the first and second floor, the secretaries' office is on the side of the elevators in room 1L-24, phone (0341) 97 32 420 or 430.

For the way back from the Institute towards the city center or the main train station, the time schedules are given here for no. 15 (and no. 12 which, however, also in this direction does not run frequently).

On the map

the most important meeting places are marked with a blue circle:

Institute for Theoretical Physics = no. 34;
"Hauptbahnhof" = main train station.

The Hotels are marked with a blue filled area with a "M" (Hotel Mercure Augustusplatz) and a "R" (Hotel Garni "Dr. Raaz") on this map.
