Theoretical Physics (Modul PH-M-WPT-2) in the Master Study Course
Summer Term 2013
Advanced Statistical Physics
Class Times
Monday and Wednesday, 9:15 - 10:45
Small Lecture Room of the ITP (Brüderstrasse 16, room 114)
The lecture course is intended for students in higher semesters which have
previously attended an introductory course in statistical physics, especially
for students in their second semester of the Master Study Course.
Subject are advanced problems of equilibrium statistical physics and basics of
the phenomenological and statistical description of non-equilibrium phenomena.
Topics include:
- Theory of phase transitions
Ising models in d=1 and 2, Renormalization group
- Phenomenological non-equilibrium thermodynamics
Balance equations for local equilibrium, generalized flows and forces
- Statistical mechanics of the non-equilibrium
Onsager reciprocal relations, linear response, Zwanzig-Mori formalism,
Boltzmann equation
- Stochastic Processes
Markov processes, Gaussian processes, Langevin and Fokker-Planck equations,
Fluctuation theorems
