Arrival with plane at Leipzig-Halle airport or train at Leipzig main station
When you come through the gate of "arriving flights", you will find signs to the airport train service to the city center of Leipzig. There are two stops, one at the big exhibition hall ("Neuwied. Leipziger Messe"), the other (yours!) in the city center at the main train station ("Leipzig Hbf - Hauptbahnhof"), which will be reached after about 15 min. If you have the impression you arrived in a huge department store - don't worry, you are right!
Â
From the main train station ("Hauptbahnhof") you can either take tram no. 12 or no. 15 to our new office building (since June 2001) at "Vor dem Hospitaltore 1" resp. "Prager Str." close to "Ostplatz" (on the r.h.s. of this map), which is the fourth stop after a 7 minutes ride. With the
train station in your back, the proper direction of the tram is to your left.
Since you travel only four stops, you can take a "short-ride ticket" ("Kurzstrecke"). General information on the Leipzig public transportation system can be found here; for schedules of tram and bus lines see this link.
If you are going to stay overnight, alternatively, you may first walk along Goethestrasse or Ritterstrasse in direction of Augustusplatz (everybody in Leipzig knows that) to catch the room keys for the University guesthouses "Ritterstr." and "Villa Tillmanns" . You get them at the reception (open 24 hours a day) of the main University building, no. 19 on the map. From there you can reach the Institute by an even shorter tram ride (5 min), again with tram no. 12 or no. 15 (the tram stop is in the middle of Augustusplatz - just in between the Opera building and the concert hall "Gewandhaus"; see the map) or by a 15-20 minutes walk along Prager Strasse.
The Institute is located at the first and second floor, my office is 1L-21 at the first floor on the side of the elevators, phone: (0341) 97 32 725. The secretaries' office is 1L-24, phone (0341) 97 32 420 or 430.
You may also try to contact Michael Bachmann (room 1R-20, phone (0341) 97 32 443) or Elmar Bittner (room 1R-21, phone (0341) 97 32 429) on the side opposite to the elevators, or Andreas NuÃ?baumer (room 2L-16, phone (0341) 97 32 450) at the second floor on the side of the elevators.
For the way back from the Institute towards the city center or the main train station, the time schedules are given here for no. 12 and no. 15.
